Hey Mom, Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff. I know this is easier said than done, but learning to let things go once in awhile is key to finding some more time for yourself to just relax or do something that you truly enjoy.

So what if the house goes 1-2 days without getting vacuumed or the laundry is put on hold for an extra day.  It is important to alleviate some of stress that we put on ourselves to get ALL of those little things done at once.

Fun Mother Daughter Pampering Ideas

All moms need special pampering, but don’t forget to include your daughters in on the pampering from time to time.  This is a vital part of parenting because you will teach your daughter that pampering herself is a very important part of life.

If you have a younger daughter, you can pamper her by inviting her with you to the nail salon or perhaps by doing eachothers nails.  This is a great idea for a fun mother-daughter night. Take turns giving each other facials and manicures, rubbing lotion on your feet or combing eachothers. If you have an older daughter, you can save and plan for a special mother-daughter pampering day at the spa.

    Quick Pampering Tips for Moms

Every mom deserves a break. You can’t always take a day off just for you. However, you can pamper yourself any day of the week, right at home. These quick pampering tips for moms are sure to give you a quick boost!

Listen to your favorite music – When was the last time you bought yourself a new CD of your favorite artist? Turn on some motivating music for yourself. Listen to music to relax or pump up the volume and dance while you do the laundry.

Light some candles – Gather a few scented candles and light them for a soothing effect. Be sure to keep a few of the scents you like best on hand so you never run out.

Bubble bath – Fill your bath tub with hot water. Squirt in some nice-smelling bubble bath. Scents like lavender, mint and vanilla contribute a calming aroma.

Rose petal soak – Instead of using bubble bath or bath salts, drop some rose petals in your water just before you get ready to soak.

Rose petal foot soak – Soak your feet for twenty minutes in warm water with rose petals. The smell from the rose petals have a calming effect and the foot soak is sure to be a treat for mom’s tired feet.

Manicure and pedicure – What mom doesn’t deserve a nice pampering manicure and pedicure! Plan a special day out alone for this special treat. If you can’t afford to pay for this, invite a girlfriend and take turns pampering each other.

Save face – Buy an inexpensive tube of facial mask and soothing cream. Give yourself a facial while relaxing in the tub or soaking your feet in a rose petal foot soak.

Mother-daughter pampering – All moms need special pampering, but don’t forget to include your daughters from time to time. If you have a younger daughter, use some of these pampering tips we’ve provided for a fun mother-daughter night. Take turns giving each other facials and manicures, rubbing lotion on your feet or combing your hair. If you have an older daughter, save and plan for a special mother-daughter pampering day at the spa.

How To optimize and free up your time

Time is one of the most important resources that we have. Time is one thing that you can’t swap, borrow or purchase. We are all given the same 24 hours to each day. Even with all of our modern day time saving conveniences such as e-mail, fax machines, microwaves and dish washers, there is no way to get more hours into your day. It is up to each of us to make the very best use of our time since we can’t get it back.

Here are some time saving tips that you can use to optimize and free up your precious time:

Double Up. One way to maximize your time is to double it up. Try
exercising while vacuuming or while watching TV. While you are talking to your children, use that time to go through their back packs and ask them about their day. During your down time chats with your girlfriend on the phone, why not clip coupons or browse through the sales paper.

Make Use of Services Available To You. Take advantage of pick-up and delivery services offered by neighborhood stores, dry cleaners and restaurants. One wonderful service to look into would be to hiring a teenager or an errand service to run certain errands for you.

Schedule Like Tasks at The Same Time. Instead of sitting in front of your computer all day returning e-mails as they arrive, try to return all e-mails during the same block of time. Set aside an hour or so to return multiple e-mails as opposed to doing it sporadically all day.

Combine your outdoor errands. When you are out grocery shopping also pick up your needed prescriptions, run to the post office and fill up your gas tank. By doing this you will not have to leave the house 3 – 4 times in the same day.

Organize your Home. We spend so much time looking for things, trying to re-create things that have been lost and cleaning up clutter. Create a spot in your home where you keep, record and pay your bills, store your stamps, envelopes and other things that you use frequently. Don’t forget about your children. How many minutes or hours a day do you spend looking for shoes, socks, toys or that favorite stuffed animal? Arrange things so that your children can take care of some of their everyday needs. Try using shoe racks that hang on the closet door so that your children can hang up their
shoes. Use clear storage containers for small toys and a desk for storing all of the arts and crafts supplies.

Make Use Of Small Bits of Time. Take care of small projects during waiting periods. For example, if you find yourself waiting in the doctors office, why not use that time to plan and write out your grocery list or “To Do” list. If you use public transportation use that time to read those magazines that have been piling up.

Plan Ahead. We can’t always foresee what will be needed but we can be prepared for certain things. Pick and set out your children’s clothes the night before. When you are cooking dinner – double the recipe and freeze half of it to be used for a meal in the upcoming weeks. Before you go to bed, create a short list of the things that you have to do the next day.

Be sure to allow for some flexibility in your schedule. If the sun starts shining on what you thought was going to be a rainy day, grab those children and head to the park or take an impromptu trip to the Zoo! Just make sure to take care of yourself and be wise about your time.

In the ‘Organizing Your Life To Find More Time’ guide you will be given simple steps to follow and
incorporate into your life that will give you the gift of more time and less stress.

Moms, You have a secret weapon! Just say “No”

Are you suffering from mom burn out? Do you struggle just to make it through each day? Moms everywhere are breaking down and giving out because they are too chicken to say, “No.”

Here are some ways you can say “no” without feeling guilty about it:

    Sorry, I’m taking a break.
The number one reason why you should say, “no” occasionally is simply that you deserve a break. You are chef, chauffeur, dish washer, and more. You job never ends on any given day of the week. You deserve a break. If you feel bad for saying “no,” say, “Sorry, I’m taking a break.”

    My schedule is full.
We tend to jam-pack our schedule full of activities, leaving time for nothing. Cut back on your kids activities. Start a car pool and share driving responsibilities. Do whatever you can to free up some time in your schedule.

I have another commitment that day.
Say it and mean it.  Regularly schedule in time with your family or time alone and if someone ask for your help during that time look in your planner and tell them you have another commitment.

Instead of rushing to be everything to everyone, stop. Ask yourself if you truly have time for whatever comes up. If not, say no by walking away, turning off the ringer on the phone, or not answering the knock at your door.

Always remember that you are a mom—not a super hero. When you have to say no, people will understand; if they don’t at first, they will get used to it eventually.
    Take Care,
    Aurelia Williams
